I was working as a prep cook at a local restaurant in Savannah, Georgia, and I was let go from my job in the middle of the month, which meant bills would be due soon, and I was the only one working to support a household of four while going to school.
Shacked at what had just happened to me, I drove around the city thinking about many things, like where will I find another job quickly. How am I going to pay my bills? What will I do to make a living now? Then these words came to my mind “Have I not given you the ability to make money?”
I saw flashed before my mind eyes all the places where I had worked and how I had managed big accounts worth hundreds and thousands of dollars; then I heard these words “If you can make money for others, you can make money for yourself.” So, I began searching for the least expensive business to startup in a short time, a cleaning service. I scraped up $1,000 and bought cleaning supplies and created flyers, and went from door to door, passing them out, and it was during June 2016, Handy Cleaning Services, LLC was established.

Our target market includes two primary segments: residential clients living in both single-family homes and multi-unit complexes and commercial clients consisting of businesses, offices, shopping complexes, and government agencies.

Then in 2020, COVID hit and turned everything upside down and financially destroyed many businesses, and because the bigger businesses had taken all the funding that was for helping small businesses, we had to almost cost down for two years, but we continued doing business at a profit loss for two years in a row. Presently, today we are slowly growing in business by partnering with another company (our bounce-back strategy) in the cleaning industry and other local businesses, real estate agencies, and property management companies. These partnerships can provide a steady stream of clients and enhance our visibility in the market.
We are striving to build our business up to be able to offer job opportunities instead of only 1099 contractors working, to offer employment to reentry citizens who are returning to society from incarceration.
Also, we support a nonprofit organization called Citizens of Hope Mentor Services, Inc, which provides training services for reentry citizens to help them create a better life for themselves and their families.
